![]() It's a pretty crap system, and again it's not just AT&T that does this but all carriers. Until then, you do need to pay the amount that AT&T is billing you or else the suspension due to non-payment will invalidate the credits. Then on month 2 or 3 once all the credits kick in (some of which are applied retroactively, some of which are not), that bill should be much less than usual, and finally from month 3 or 4 it should all stabilize and be consistent going forward. Combine that with the fact that most of those credits take a few bill cycles to kick in, plus activation fees and taxes, and your first few bills are going to be pretty high. The unfortunate part of every postpaid carrier nowadays, not just AT&T, is that they charge a month in advance and no longer bill "in arrears" so it's normal that your first bill will be for about 1 and 1/2 months worth of service and be due before you've even had a full month of service they like to bill early. Check to See if your employer or school has a Signature Discount (FAN) with AT&T that you can take advantage of!
